COW HIDE
Cowhides come in a multitude of finishes and thicknesses and cover a much broader use than that possible with lambskin. The raw material can be divided into sections within the skin, each with its own purpose. This can be sides, bellies, shoulders, butts, double butts as well as the whole hide itself. All of these parts of skin can be sourced if required, but for stock we carry just full grain sides and hides.
We can offer fully drummed dyed sides on Nassau in substance 1.0/1.2mm where the grain has little protection, but a superb hand feel and softness ideal for men’s outerwear. As there is no grain surface treatment there will be minor imperfections visible on the skin, but all add to the beauty of the product. If a heavier substance is requierd, we have now introduced Deer Cow 1.6/1.8mm, a beautiful round waxy handle ideal for soft belts or bags.
For a lightly finished, glazed appearance, Canada is available on full hides.
Jap hide is a super light weight 0.5mm substance material from theFar East which has the weight of a lambskin but offers excellent cutting and is especially ideal for one piece leg trousers.
Moto hide is a full weight side for when that heavier leather is required, with a surface spray to cover defects and provide excellent cutting. For an aged appearance we have pull-up sides, pull up with more grain character on Texas sides, and for very waxy antique the more traditional Crazy Horse.
Madras hide is most suited for upholstery as the full hide is pigmented for maximum wear protection and selected premium sizes for optimum cutting.
